James Watson (1928 – )

He graduated from South Shore High School and entered the University of Chicago in 1943 at the age of 15. He received his B.S. in Zoology in 1947 and his Ph.D. at the age of 22 from Indiana University in 1950. He was part of the team of three who deduced the double helix structure of DNA and received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for “their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material”.
