Joshua Lederberg (1925 – 2008)

He graduated from Stuyvesant High School at the age of 15 and entered Columbia at the age of 16 in 1941 majoring in zoology. From 1944-1946 he attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Medical School. He received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or medicine at the age of 33 for discovering that bacteria can mate and exchange genes. He was also the founder of the Stanford Department of Genetics.
