Ruth Gruber (1911 – )

She graduated from high school at the age of 15. She earned a bachelor and masters degree by the age of 19 and began a doctorate program in Cologne, Germany in 1931 completing her Ph.D. in one year. The New York Times discussed her then as the youngest person to pursue a Ph.D. at the age of 20. She participated in aiding Jews in Europe to escape the Nazi’s, working for the United States government in a “simulated general” so that if she were captured she would be protected under the Geneva Conventions. She continued life as a journalist covering humanitarian issues.
